Vietnamese developer gets contract for Mekong River hydropower project in Cambodia

PHNOM PENH, Cambodia 3/18/10 (PennWell) — A Vietnamese development company has won the contract for a multi-billion-dollar dam and hydropower plant on the Mekong River in Cambodia, local media reported.

The Vietnam Urban and Industrial Zone Development Investment Corporation has two years to complete impact and output studies, news agencies reported.

The project could cost as much as US$3 billion and could generate up to 980 megawatts from the Mekong River in Stung Treng province, according to a government report.
